Primary Research

My primary research was to visit the Dunstable library and to go and have a look at children's books ,on how they attract children. The main reason was of the text, mainly being Helvetica or Times New Roman which is a simple text, when being default fonts they can be easier to read so the children can read it more clearly.

Colour is also another reason to draw young people into books. When larger white spaces are included in the book it produces more bleed on the page or the front cover of the book. This would have to be included in most books whereas the audience ,children, want to see a proportion of the picture instead of a heap of text. The author has to be very smart when he using the words for the age criteria, they have to be basic and direct. If the words are too complex then the reader such as children 3-6 will not have a clue what the author has written.

Character Research

Clanger

A Clanger is mouse-like character that lives on a small blue planet ,this planet is set on a dustbin.A Clanger is pink and its material is made of sowed-cotton Clangers contain copper armour around their waist. The armour would keep them away from the soup dragon,a creature with a penchant for a green soup on the planet.

A clanger attracts a child's attention mainly because of its voice, instead of human voices, the producer(Oliver Postgate) added whistles, also it maybe attracted by its color, pink.A Clanger is also described as an anteater mainly because of its big nose, this maybe another effect on children of its era.

Bear

Bear, a curious brown bear with a good sense of smell, lives in the Big Blue House with his friends Ojo the Bear, Tutter the Mouse, Treelo the Lemur, Pip and Pop the Otters, Shadow, and Luna the Moon.
